Grindelwald hosts the first Federal Youth Yodelling Festival

Grindelwald hosted the first Federal Youth Yodelling Festival from 11 to 13 September 2026.¹² Radio BeO announced more than 1,000 young people from all over Switzerland.²

The festival gives 6- to 25-year-olds a stage for yodelling, flag throwing, and alphorn and büchel playing; anyone born in 2001 or later was eligible.² Overall management lay with organising committee president Heidi Schlunegger.² The programme included an entertainment evening on Friday, performances at various spots around the village on Saturday, a party in the evening and a brunch with music on Sunday.²

According to Plattform J, around 50 children's and youth groups attended.³ One of them was the Jodu Chinderchörli Moossee from the Bernese Mittelland, led by Marina Kaufmann-Wanner.³ Founded in 1997 with 27 children, it now has 17 singing, though there were times when it was down to nine.⁴ After each performance, a two-member jury gave an oral assessment.³

The festival is set to take place every three years at changing venues.² The sources do not say where the next edition will be held. Next on the Swiss Yodelling Association's calendar are the 2027 sub-association festivals, including the Jodelselezione del Sud on 19 June 2027 in Bellinzona and the Western Swiss yodelling festival from 2 to 4 July 2027 in Château-d'Oex.¹
