Deezer lets listeners hide AI-generated music from search

A new switch hides fully AI-generated music from search results. Manipulated streams already earn nothing in royalties on Deezer.

Ruedi Baumberger · Editorial profile

Deezer is adding a switch that lets listeners hide fully AI-generated music from search results.1 It is due worldwide before the end of 2026, and you can turn it off again at any time.1

The figures are Deezer's own. Between January 2025 and August 2026 the service detected more than 42 million AI-generated recordings and removed them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.1 Nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated recordings arrive every day. On peak days that is more than half of everything delivered.1 Their share of streams is only 1 to 3 per cent. According to Deezer, up to 85 per cent of those streams in 2025 were fraudulent.1

What this means in practice: when Deezer detects manipulated streams, they are excluded from royalty payments.1 By keeping AI recordings out of recommendations, Deezer aims to stop them diluting the royalty pool everyone else is paid from in any significant way.1 The new switch applies to search results. Music where AI contributes just a few elements is treated differently.1 The announcement does not say how many people in Switzerland use Deezer.
